With kings I've walked in castles, Down cold, long halls On hard, damp floors. I've sat on velvet cushions That could not cover The discomfort of a throne. I've heard the dialogues That are a glory to our age, When, schooled in conversation, Princes speak with fluent grace. Yet, I still know of other things, Of village hovels visited by hunger, Of ones not blessed by birth To live within the castle walls Or blessed with time to be so clever. I know to judge the wealth, The very worth, of any kingdom, You must walk among the people Least known, least blessed, least loved. Judy (Wishes)
