What's Gnawing At My Heart?

There's something right there, gnawing at the corner of my heart.
What is it?
Pain?
No, that I could recognize. I've lived with pain before. Most of my life.
I don't know, but I can feel it. Nibbling, chewing, trying to get to me.
Fear?
Of what?
Dying?
No. That would be welcome I think.
It's begging to be let in. I won't drop those walls.
It's tearing me apart. My soul is hurting. Maybe if I let it in.....
NO! I won't. I won't give up to it.
Love? Ha! Ridiculous...I'm not even capable of feeling love...am I?
No...
So what is it?
My eyes flick to the honey haired girl who so stubbornly followed me out of that tiny village a few days ago. Her emerald eyes shine at me as she smiles shyly and I feel that gnawing again......
