The Promise

You say I've taught you many lessons
But it is I, who from you
have learned the most important ones of all

Of me, you have only ever asked one thing
and when I see the concern in your eyes
how can I deny you that promise

If the day ever comes
when the darkness of my past separates us
I will remember my promise to you
and the lessons of love and forgiveness
that from you I've learned
