Nature holds hostage all we love.


What we hope to protect we may destroy


By our very attempts at protection.


Nature will decide the yay or nay of life.


Decision is an illusion to comfort fools


Who know too little to choose this way or that.


We may debate in pompous forums,


But nature will decide the fate


Of those we cannot spare.
