Xena: Choose Your own Adventure #2

CHAPTER #41 ----- REVERSE PSYCHOLOGY

H = 22, X = 30

"There's something I have to tell you, Danaka," Gabrielle stopped walking and stared at the warrior.

"What is it, Callisto?" Danaka asked, smiling gently. Gabrielle winced at the name, bad memories flashing back.

"I'm not Callisto," the bard said flatly.

It was a few seconds until what she said set into Danaka. Danaka pursed her lips. Xena had dismounted Argo and was now right beside the two.

"What do you mean? You tricked me?" Danaka asked, her voice cracking.

"Sort of..." Gabrielle said, biting her lip.

Danaka pulled up her sword and swung it at the bard before Gabrielle could even see what was going to hit her. Gabrielle screamed as metal met metal. She looked up to see that Xena and Danaka had taken to hand-to-hand combat, the swords clanging loudly.

It wasn't long before Danaka's army realized what was going on.

"Xena, I know that you can battle ten, or maybe twenty, but this is fifty we're talking about," Gabrielle murmured to herself.

The fight lasted long, each having their weak moments and their strong moments, but none as strong as Xena's last against Danaka.

Danaka was standing over the grounded Xena, her sword at the warrior's throat. Danaka brought up the sword--and was hit from behind with a surprise kick from Xena. Xena yelled her battlecry as she sailed over the short group of the army and onto Argo.

Danaka gave up on the Warrior Princess and held a sword to Gabrielle.

"I'll kill her, then!" Danaka's voice shook.

"No, you won't," Xena began.

"How do you know?"

"Because if you kill her, you'll never know if she really was Callisto." Danaka pondered this for a moment and dropped her arm. The sword was at her side as Gabrielle rushed over to Xena.

"That was risky," she muttered jokingly.

"What else do you travel with me for?" Xena chuckled.

"If Callisto can't be with me, then I'll be with Callisto!" Danaka shrieked as she plunged her own sword at her heart.

Xena, Gabrielle, and Danaka's army looked on.

Xena was the only one who wasn't surprised.

As Danaka collapsed, Xena heard one army member ask a question. "What do we do now?" he asked. A few others shrugged.

"How about leave and never pick up a sword again?" Xena said from a distance.

A few people nodded and walked off beyond the plain.

Gabrielle watched as people from the village came out with pitchforks, probably seeing what all the commotion was about.

Xena sighed and moved Argo to turn back into the woods. Gabrielle sighed.

"It's good to have just one sister again," she laughed. Xena grinned, and neither looked back at Cirra.
